I am too confused between CSE at DTU/NSIT and IIT Jodhpur. What should I do?

I can never stop emphasizing this, no matter how many options you have always go for the one that gives you the IIT tag.

I am not saying Engineering colleges like NSIT and DTU aren’t good but they are in the developing phase while IIT Jodhpur is in its developing phase. This means it will only get better. Despite being a new IIT, its average package this year was recorded at INR 21.30 LPA, which is a great feat for a new college.

Additionally, IITs receive more funding from the government to provide better research and project opportunities. Specifically speaking about CSE, this year the highest INR 56 LPA was bagged by BTech CSE. The placement percentage stood at 97% while the average package for CSE was recorded at INR 23 LPA.

DTU and NSIT may have higher placement statistics but they lack what IIT Jodhpur offers, the most coveted IIT tag! So choose wisely.

Is DTU good or bad?

AB

Like any other thing, DTU has its own set of weaknesses and strengths. To name a few

Pros

  1. You become fully dependent on self-study and stay motivated on your own.
  2. It is located in the capital city of India and thus has a plethora of opportunities to offer.
  3. Some recruiters still consider it a part of DU and approach it because of its DCE brand.
  4. DTU still is the mother institution of IIT Delhi and thus has a great faculty pool and academic environment. We have well-qualified teachers and good exposure.
  5. The 150-acre campus is better maintained than the huge forest-like campus of NSIT.
  6. DTU is better than IITs in the sense that its brand name hasn't been diluted yet and it stands high amongst its rivals.
  7. The best part of DTU is the Engifest, a spectacular event with massive participation.

Cons

  • DTU classroom sessions are very lacking so students don't get to experience good classroom learning.
  • Although it is in Delhi, its location is Bawana
  • DTU lacks the brand value and tag which is crucial for engineering students.
  • The increasing batch size every year is another reason to worry about as it's affecting the cutoffs and placement opportunities directly.

Overall, DTU is a great choice if you are not after brand value and are ready to commit to hard work.

Here are some details regarding B.Tech admissions through defense HS quota-

Admissions through defense quota depend on your priority category:

  1. Till 5th priority category - Confirmed admission with any AIR.
  2. 6th priority category - Admission depends on other applicants’ rank.
  3. 7th priority category - No chance in the general defense category.

NSUT Round 5 cutoff for general defense category Delhi students (JEE Mains 2023) is given below-

NSUT B.Tech branch

How is life of a CS student in NSIT and DTU as compared with life of a CS student in an IIT?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 22nd, 2023

Here are a few points of differences between the life of a CS student in NSUT/Delhi and life of a CS student in an IIT

  • Academic Workload: The first-year students in NSUT and DTU have a laid-back and relaxed experience with no academic pressure of completing assignments, preparing for internals, performing practicals, etc. Whereas IITians are busy with a hectic schedule and rigorous academics right from the first year. They have to be serious about their practicals, labs, and assignments.
  • Attendance Policy: Although NSUT and DTU have a 75% attendance policy NSUT students don’t follow and the consequences aren’t very serious. IITs on the other hand are very serious about attendance policies. Students need to attend classes, tutorials, and labs each requiring 75% attendance.
  • Curriculum: NSUT and DTU have a relatively lighter and easier curriculum than IITs which have a very rigorous and challenging course syllabus.
  • Campus life: NSUT and DTU have relatively dull campus life than IITs. Students are not involved in organizing summits, seminars, presentations, events, etc. While in IITs the campus is buzzing with some or other activities every day.
  • Hostel life: Unfortunately in India, the quality of hostel life depends on your gender. If you are a girl you will have a full life anywhere whereas if you are a boy you will get full freedom at either place.
  • Placements: Placements won’t be an issue if you are a CSE graduate because both NSUT and IITs offer similar opportunities.

Hope the comparison helps you get a better understanding of lives in different colleges.

DTU vs NSIT: Which one should I choose for mechanical engineering?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : July 6th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Both DTU and NSIT are great options for engineering aspirants with good ranks who are unable to make it into IITs. These 2 institutes are at the same level as top NITs, BITS, and IIT Guwahati. Comparing DTU and NSIT, the following points can be considered

  • Branch: NSIT is slightly better than DTU in software branches like COE/IT and even ECE whereas DTU excels in core branches like Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil.
  • Infrastructure: Infrastructure-wise, DU is the clear winner with its 160-acre beautifully designed campus and top-notch facilities. Although NSIT has TI labs for ECE students, the overall campus facilities speak in favor of DTU.
  • College Life: Campus life is better at DTU because of the relaxation of rules and a laid-back environment. NSIT has strict rules and students have to worry about attendance.
  • Mechanical Engineering: DTU Mechanical Engineering is an excellent choice because of its age-old legacy. The department excels in all aspects be it infrastructure, labs, faculty, facilities, reputation, and placements. The branch can be easily compared with the ME branches of IITs and BITS in terms of placements and education. A number of societies like ASME, and SAE will harness your passion for the branch.

DTU is an excellent choice if you are genuinely interested in Mechanical Engineering.

NIT Surathkal is better than Delhi engineering colleges like NSIT, DTU and IIIT Delhi because it offers a more diverse experience. Here are a few aspects to consider

  • Reputation : NIT Surathkal enjoys the status of being an Institute of National importance and is fully funded by the Central government whereas DTU, NSIT, and IIITD are state government universities
  • Research culture: NIT Surathkal has a rich research culture and facilities and is one of the institutes which is selected for funding from HEFA
  • Academics : NIT Surathkal is a clear winner as its academic environment and curriculum are way better than Delhi colleges. Every year many students win International awards.
  • Campus life: NIT Surathkal has a private beach with a lush green campus of 300 acres. Moreover, its crowd is much more diverse than Delhi colleges which have 85% quota for Delhites.
  • Location : Situated near the IT hub, Bangalore NIT Surathkal students are exposed to more opportunities and a better IT environment. Many Bangalore IT companies give preference to NITK Surathkal students.
  • Placements : NIT Surathkal achieves 100% placement and has a better variety of recruiters than Delhi colleges.
  • Coding Culture: NIT Surathkal has received good rankings in the ICPC Asia Contest and every year many students are selected for Google Summer of Code.
  • ROI : NIT Surathkal offers a better ROI because it charges lesser fees than NSIT, DTU, and IIIT Delhi.

So, it's safe to say NIT Surathkal is a much better option than Delhi colleges.

Which should I choose: NIT Kurukshetra CS or DTU electrical engineering?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : September 1st, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Out of the two, I suggest you choose CS at NIT Kurukshetra. The reasons are-

  1. CS and IT provide much better job opportunities than other branches.
  2. The subjects, overall curriculum and practicals of CS are much more interesting than Electrical.
  3. At NIT Kurukshetra, the CS/ IT placements are good.
  4. Companies like Snapdeal, Flipkart, Amazon, Lenskart, HP, etc. visit the NIT Kurukshetra campus during placement season.

DTU is a good college as well. But considering the branch you are getting offered at each, I recommend you choose NIT Kurukshetra. NIT Kurukshetra offers a good curriculum and placements in CS/IT.

Which one is better-Electronics and communications in Dtu or nsit?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : July 5th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

My sister pursued her B.E. in Electronics and Communication from NSIT (NSUT). She was also confused between the two options when she got her JEE Mains rank. Finally, she chose NSUT. These are the reasons behind her decision-

  1. NSIT (NSUT) is well-known for Electronics. Before their separation, NSUT was a part of DTU that specialized in Electronics.
  2. The faculty for electronics is better at NSUT. There are well-known and highly respected faculty members under whom you can do various projects.
  3. The CEDT Lab at NSUT, funded by Texas Instruments is famous in other colleges as well and people from other colleges also enroll themselves to work in the CEDT Lab.
  4. NSUT is not as overpopulated as DTU. This leads to comparatively less competition and better placement opportunities.

Overall, NSUT is a better choice to pursue your Electronics and Communication Engineering.
