My uncle is an alumnus of NIT Agartala Production Engineering and never once regretted choosing the branch. While most of the students were after branches like Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, etc.
He chose the least preferred, Production Engineering. He claimed that if you want to go for higher studies or secure jobs through GATE then the branch doesn’t really matter. Moreover, most campus jobs are from IT companies so the branch does not matter but your skills do. If you have already chosen Production Engineering, then wait patiently because the results will be great.
From my uncle's batch, many students moved on to pursue successful careers. A few of them have been listed below
Additionally, many others joined IT industries like Virtusa, Polaris, Capgemini, and Cognizant while some joined as professors in different universities after pursuing Mtech or PhD from good universities.
So the conclusion is, that there are a plethora of opportunities and options you are exposed to even in the Production Engineering branch of NIT Agartala.
MNNIT Allahabad is a well-reputed university offering a plethora of opportunities through its production engineering course options to the students. It has been ranked 14 among Top Public Colleges in India 2020 by India Today and 48 by NIRF for its B.Tech course.

I will not recommend you choose NIT Kurukshetra Production and Industrial Engineering because you will need a good rank for it and you can opt for CS at better colleges with that rank. Moreover, joining a college in the hope of solely upgrading your branch isn't a wise decision. The branch change procedure is more challenging than it seems. For branches like CS, you need a very high CGPA around 9.6+ which will be very tiring. Even after that, there isn't a guarantee for branch change as other factors like availability of seats and the demand of the branch are considered. You might get Mechanical with a lower CGPA around 9 though. I know a friend who went for Production and Industrial Engineering at NIT Kurukshetra and then changed his branch into mechanical engineering by securing a pointer of 9.0.
The point is this is a risky option and you cannot bet your 4 years on this. If you are good at dealing with failures and want to come out of your comfort zone to challenge yourself, then consider joining the branch and working for branch change. But if you feel you won't be able to handle the consequences then look for other options because the branch of Production and Industrial Engineering isn't very easy.
The placement support at NIT Calicut in Production Engineering is not up to par. Core companies like Tata Motors, NRF, etc. do not encourage students from Production Engineering to sit for the placement. They are not considered equivalent to mechanical engineering by the major recruiters.
UIET Chandigarh is a public institute approved by AICTE and affiliated to Panjab University. BE in CSE here is offered as a 4 year full time course. CSE and IT has the best placement record.
PEC Chandigarh is ranked 68th for BTech by NIRF 2020. The department of Production and Industrial Engineering of PEC is one of the oldest departments of production engineering in India. They have a student intake of 40 in this department.

It is a much in demand course. Due to the rapid growth of the corporate industry there is a huge demand for Computer Engineers all over the world. CSE will be a better choice for your career.
Both NIT Allahabad and NIT Patna are well-respected institutions with strong programs in engineering. Here is a comparative analysis of the placement scenario of the 2 branches Production Engineering and ECE

NIT Patna ECE placements are great and the packages offered are high. Moreover, the institute is located in the center of the city so you have access to all kinds of coaching institutes for preparation of competitive exams like GATE and IES. The reason I won’t suggest you go for Production Engineering is ve age of its limited scope in the country.
Ultimately the choice depends on your inclinations.
First of all, it is important to note that Civil Engineering and Production Engineering are not the same things. Students looking to pursue courses in any of these fields are required to do thorough research before choosing and applying to a university.
Ranking:
Departments:
Admission Cut-off:
Both universities accept JEE scores for admission. IIEST Shibpur B.Tech in Civil Engineering requires a rank around 2506-27001 whereas JU B.tech in production engineering requires a rank of 315-420.
Placements:
Thus, it all depends on the student and their JEE ranking if they want to take admission in IIEST Shibpur or Jadavpur University. Again, it also depends on the interest whether they want to pursue Civil Engineering or go towards the production engineering line.
Choose the course that interests you, college is a secondary thing. Here are some of the facts that may help you in choosing the right branch for you.
Your future will depend on the branch you are choosing so choose according to your interest. All these Universities will offer you enough opportunities and resources to prosper. It’s up to you to use that well.
There are several things you should consider while comparing these branches.
During 2023 placements, 97.29% of students were placed in the Civil branch. Metallurgy students received 100% placements while production students received 97.61% placements.
The salary package stats for these branches are as described below-
Out of the three, Metallurgy has the highest placement percentage.
TATA Steel offers good placements to Metallurgy students of NIT Jamshedpur. Other than them, Vedanta, Jindal Steel, Hindalco, and Tata Metaliks are some other companies that offer placements to Metallurgy students of NIT Jamshedpur.
Metallurgy is a good choice for higher studies. Many students from this branch perform really well in GATE exams.
I recommend you consider joining Metallurgy at NIT Jamshedpur because it offers good future prospects. However, also talk to some seniors from the other branches before making a final decision.
Civil engineering is a core branch whereas Production engineering is a subsidiary of Mechanical engineering. Civil Engineering at NIT Kurukshetra has an edge in the highest package while Production Engineering has a higher average package.
The scope of Production engineering is expected to increase in the future whereas Civil Engineering scope is decreasing every year with very limited job opportunities. This scenario can be found in almost every engineering college.
