Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering) From IIT Patna, Patna

I am a CSE student at IIT Patna and I will try to justify why choosing IIT Patna for your

CSE is a good decision. Don’t base your choice on how old an institution is. 

All the new IITs like IIT Patna or IIT Jodhpur are doing exceptionally well, some are even competing against the old IITs. IIT Patna has a great campus and it has achieved tremendous success in a short span of time. 

CSE department has a learned and supportive faculty and great seniors. The teams have always performed exceptionally well in the ACM-ICPC and have even made it to the world finals. A good number of students clear the  GSoC( Google Summer of Code). 

NJACK club organizes tutorial classes and workshops on Web development, App development, Android, etc. It also organizes competitions like Capture the Flag, NWoC-an open source coding event, and other competitions throughout the year.

Other interdisciplinary teams which you can join are ROBOCON, Supra BAJA, HPVC etc. 

CSE alums at IIT Patna have made successful startups and others are working in good positions at top MNCs. Overall, the coding culture over here is excellent.

The placements for the CSE department are quite impressive. For 2023 placements, the highest package stood at INR 82.05 LPA. The average package stood at INR 35.57 LPA and the median package stood at INR 32.85 LPA. 98.65% of students from the CSE branch were placed.

In the end, whether you choose IIT Jodhpur, IIT Mandi, IIT Patna, or any other institution, the choice should be based on your personal preference. However, I would suggest you choose IIT Patna CSE as I am quite satisfied with my choice. 

My friend was in a similar dilemma last year and chose DTU over IIT Patna. She considers new IITs overhyped and not at par with the IIT standards. Running after the IIT tag is not logical and you should look at the bigger picture. Anaise your career prospects and see if other options fit your prospects or not. 

DTU is a great option for CSE considering the excellent exposure and opportunities you will get in Delhi, the capital. The salary packages, the companies, and the profiles offered at DTU are similar to the new IITs if not better. 

To make things simpler, here are a few pros and cons of going for a new IIT instead of DTU

Pros:

• The most coveted IIT tag name, helps you get admission to foreign universities and also helps you in off-campus job hunt.
• IITs have better research opportunities 
• The academic structure and pedagogy are world-class at IITs

Cons:

• Being in Delhi will groom your overall personality in addition to excellent professional opportunities and exposure. 
• The new IITs fail to give a vibrant and dynamic college life and are still struggling with infrastructure and basics. DTU, being old, has a vibrant culture with all sorts of fests, cultural and tech activities.
• Delhi is the hub of coaching institutes for higher education. 
• DTU has a better brand name established by its successful alumni spread across the globe. 

Ultimately it’s your choice whether you want a better campus life or the IIT tag. 

IIT Patna CSE branch is known for the best placements. However, there is not much difference between ECE and CSE but it has maintained a legacy in CSE.

Whether IIT Patna CSE is better or MnC at IIT Guwahati, depends on what you want to do after your graduation. 

If you have an interest in pure and abstract Math and want to do research in Maths, theoretical computer science, Set theory, Group Theory, and Complexity Theory, then the IIT Guwahati MnC program is the best for you.

However, if you have an interest in coding and want to become a competitive programmer, or a software developer, and research in areas other than Theoretical Computer Science, then IIT Patna CSE is the right choice for you. Extensive research on every CS field is done here.

Basically, the academic workload of the MnC program at IIT Guwahati is too much with a very rigid curriculum that will spare you no time to focus on coding. No doubt, the MnC program too has excellent job opportunities in finance, banking, and software jobs. But, the demand for CS students is much more than MnC students and is expected to be increasingly so over the next few years. 

Common courses of CS and MNC include theoretical computer science, some being computer networks, and operating systems while the rest of the courses are related to abstract Maths/pure Math and are highly rigorous in nature. Contrary to popular belief, there aren't many common concepts between MnC and CS. 

IIT Guwahati will give you a slightly better campus life in comparison to IIT Patna considering its scenic campus and high-level fests organized by the institute.

IIT Patna and IIT Ropar are reputed institutes in India and are highly advanced in academics and infrastructure. Both were established in 2008, but for some reason, IIT Patna is leading IIT Ropar, especially in the Department of Computer Science and Electronics. Before making a final decision, take a look at the points given below

• IIT Patna is renowned for its multiple qualifications for the ACM ICPC world finals. This showcases the excellent coding culture at IIT Patna.
• Last year, IIT Patna conducted 14 GSOC selections, which are the most among the IITs established in 2008.
• IIT Patna also gives importance to extra-curricular activities and numerous clubs are running for the support of students, including Finance Club, which guides students who want to switch careers to finance

So, you can opt for IIT Patna to secure your career in the field of computer science.

• The CSE department is renowned and they ensure 100% placement support on high packages every year and are gifted with highly experienced faculties
• The course curriculum of the CSE department is fabulous and builds the best software developers and Engineers. The same curriculum is followed in most of the reputed institutions like IIT Bombay, IISc, and so on

My knowledge is limited to IIT Patna CSE as my brother studies there and his frequent narrations have given me a good insight of the institute. But trust me after going through the points you won’t consider IIT Gandhinagar or NIT Allahabad anymore.

• Usually, the majority of professors in IITs and NITs are a bit careless but here the CSE professors are especially supportive.
• IIT Patna CSE Placements recorded 98.65% with the highest package at INR 82.05 LPA and the average package at INR 35.57 LPA. Siem exceptional cases even receive packages in CPA.
• IIT Patna has made many big achievements and the number of students clearing the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) has also increased.
• In the ACM-ICPC, world-level coding competition, IIT Patna stood 2nd in the Kolkata zone and 56th worldwide. 
• IIT Patna is well-known for its good coding culture so its CSE program is great.

 So I would say go for IIT Patna!
