Course: Rubber Technology
Course Type: Post Graduation
M. Tech. in Rubber Technology is a 2- year long course divided into 4 semesters, with each semester lasting a period of 6 months. Rubber Technology is a specialized branch of engineering that involves the transformation of rubbers, elastomers, latex, natural rubber, synthetic rubber into useful products such as automobile tires, rubber mats, and exercise rubber stretching bands.
The course includes an advanced study of the various types of rubbers, their properties, and descriptions of formulation of rubber compounds. The methods involved in the processing of rubber are vulcanization, mastication, and calendering. The program consists of components of study such as processing technology, manufacture of latex products, non- tyre rubber products, tyres, testing and specification of rubber, latex products, materials science, organic chemistry, basics of polymers, rubber compounding, adhesives and surface coatings, plastic materials, and many more such relevant areas.

Candidates wishing to apply for the course need to meet the following minimum criteria of eligibility:
Many institutes prefer students with professional experience, therefore, it is advised for candidates to acquire a work experience of a minimum of 24 months. Also, candidates with two years of relevant work experience are exempted from appearing in GATE, provided their candidature is sponsored by the employer.
Eligible candidates are required to qualify a relevant entrance examination followed by a round of group discussion. Subsequently, qualifying candidates are needed to go through additional rounds of personal interview as the final stage in the process of selection. The main entrance exam held in India for admission to the course is GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering).
GATE is an All-India examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The entrance exam is primarily held for admission to post graduate courses in the field of engineering, technology, architecture and science.
The online test is a multiple- choice and numerical- type exam divided into three sections, namely General Aptitude, Engineering Mathematics and the specialty subject.
However, a few colleges such as Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) for Madras Institute of Technology, Chennai, also have their own entrance examinations such as Manipal Institute of Technology and UPES (written tests and interview), and admission procedures in place for selecting and admitting candidates.
