How to Apply?

• Applicants for the PhD Program /Integrated PhD can download an application form from the institute's website @nitnagaland.ac.in.
• By clicking on "Academics," you can choose a course.
• Fill in with your personal details, info about your education, etc.
• If anyone has to apply for more than one specialization, the application form must be separately filled for each one.
• If necessary, candidates can attach their academic profiles. The following information is included in the academic profile: Awards, patents, awards, and other accolades; publications/conference papers, etc.
• If the applicant is applying for a full-time PhD and is working, the employer must have a relieving certificate at the time of admission.
• The duly filled-in application form, along with enclosures, and a non-refundable application fee of INR 1000/- (INR 500/- for SC/ST candidates) should be sent to the Director, National Institute of Technology Nagaland, Chumukedima, Dimapur-797103.

Documents Required

Candidates seeking admission to the NIT Nagaland PhD program shall bring the original certificates and 2 photocopies of the following documents for verification:

• Date of Birth proof
• ID Card proof
• SSLC / SSC / Matriculation Certificate
• 10 +2 / HSLC / Intermediate / PU Certificate
• Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree Mark Sheets and Certificate
• GATE/NET Scorecard

• 4 recent passport-size photographs

Tabulated below are the details of the area of specialization offered in the NIT Nagaland PhD program:

Program Structure

Course Duration: The full-time and part-time NIT Nagaland PhD program is offered for a duration of 2 years, which can be extended with permission given by the Doctoral Committee under certain circumstances. The duration of the Integrated PhD program is 5 years.

Comprehensive Examination: Every PhD scholar shall take and perform satisfactorily in a Comprehensive Examination in their respective department which shall be conducted by a Comprehensive Examination Committee.

• The objective of the Comprehensive Examination is to test the general capability of the research scholar and their knowledge in their discipline and field of research.
• The Comprehensive Examination will consist of a written test and an oral examination or only an oral examination.

Synopsis and Thesis Submission: The Scholar must submit the necessary copies of the Synopsis of his or her research work after successfully completing the prescribed courses.

• The Research Scholar must apply the necessary copies of the thesis and abstract of the thesis within one month of the Synopsis being accepted.
• On the Scholar's request for legitimate reasons, the Doctoral Committee may grant additional time beyond one month.

Thesis Report: Within two months of receiving the thesis, the examiner is expected to send the report on the thesis.

• If one of the two thesis examiners considers the thesis uncommented, it will be referred to a third-panel examiner for review.
• If two examiners' reports, after referral to a third examiner if appropriate, pronounce the thesis 'commended,' the Doctoral Committee will review the reports and recommend that the viva voce be conducted.

Grades: Each student receives a final grade in each subject based on their results at the end of the semester test. Tabulated below are the grades and their corresponding grade points:

• Research Scholars must achieve a minimum CGPA of 7.5 in the courses they take, with a minimum grade of "C" in the required courses. 
• If more than the minimum required electives have been taken, the CGPA will be computed using only the electives with the best grades.
• If a student receives a grade higher than D, he or she is deemed to have successfully completed the subject and received the credits.

Award of Degree: The Research Scholar will be granted an NIT Nagaland PhD degree if his or her success in the viva voce is satisfactory.

NIT Nagaland PhD Program Research Program
