There are universities which offer two kind of undergraduate courses in Sociology. These are a BA Honors in Sociology and BA Program or BA Pass in Sociology. There is no substantial difference between the two courses. The core courses and electives generally remain the same. The only difference is that in an Honors course, a student has an option to specialize in one or more subject related to sociology.
So while a BA Program or BA Pass in Sociology student has to study all the general subjects of Sociology, a BA Honors in Sociology student has in-depth knowledge of the honors paper of their choice.
A lot of students may choose to pursue further academics after BA Sociology. For such students there is no dearth of options. The first and most obvious option is a Master of Arts degree in Sociology from any reputed University offering Postgraduate courses in India. Candidates applying should have passed HSC with minimum 50% marks for an Honors course with 45% marks in the subjects in which the application is sought. Similarly, for General course candidate should have passed HSC with 40% marks.
Selection to each UG course is on the basis of merit list. Merit list is drawn considering candidate’s marks in top four subjects in the qualifying exam i.e. HSC. Admission to BBA (Hons.) is done on the basis of GD/PI.
