Ques. How is NIT Surathkal metallurgy?

● Top Answer By Debarati Nag on 13 Apr 21

Ans. Metallurgy at NIT Surathkal is a very good branch as there is a rising requirement of materials science and engineering and their number of students taking admission in this branch is comparatively less than other branches like Civil, Mechanical or Electrical so you can expect less competition in this field. Categories Metallurgy at NIT Surathkal Course Fee 1.85 lakh Placement Percentage 54% Average CTC 7 LPA The course is really good and it gives a strong base to the students for their higher studies which is quite important in this field. The department is now called Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and it focuses more on materials engineering. The professors here are very good at their job and are enthusiastic about teaching. They teach very well and create an interest among the students.  The facilities are not that great but are good enough as an engineering college. There is one SEM and XRD, metallurgy lab, materials testing lab, and a good heat treatment lab. The placement records are quite good too and it exposes you to various companies so you can secure a job in both core and non-core companies.Read more

Ques. Should I go for civil engineering or metallurgy and material science engineering in NIT Trichy?

● Top Answer By Sreeja Prasad on 31 Aug 21

Ans. I would suggest you go for metallurgy if you plan to do a job right after completing your degree. Metallurgy has more job opportunities to offer. With Metallurgy, you can easily learn coding and go for tech companies. NIT Trichy has a great coding culture, so picking up coding skills will not be difficult.  If you plan to prepare for civil services or any other government job, I would suggest you go for civil engineering. When compared to metallurgy, there are fewer job opportunities in the civil department. If you plan on doing an MBA after having done your engineering, you can opt for either of them because then it does not matter anyway.Read more

Ques. Should I choose NIT Trichy for CSE or IIT Roorkee for metallurgy? Why?

● Top Answer By Anusha Rahaman on 11 Apr 23

Ans. My brother was in the CSE branch of NIT Trichy and based on his experience, here are a few pointers: The professors are extremely learned and experienced and impart quality education The relative grading system establishes peer pressure, and as a result, there is tough competition among the students  IIT Roorkee is well known for its rich coding culture that is promoted by student-driven and institute funded clubs. These clubs give you additional knowledge on web designing, App development, and game development that might be useful later in The CSE department is one of the most coveted branches, and being a part of one will inculcate a sense of privilege. The hostel and campus life is decent with all necessary amenities. A total of 5 fests are held throughout the year and are totally funded and organized by the institute. The institute is located in an area that helps you explore nearby tourist spots like Pondicherry and Ooty. You won’t ever regret choosing NIT CSE.Read more

Ques. How is NIT Calicut for a B.Tech in material science?

● Top Answer By Nandini Mishra on 26 Aug 21

Ans. B.Tech in material science in NIT CALICUT is a slightly underrated course as it is newly introduced. NIT Calicut also has an M.Tech course for material science.  The material science branch in NIT Calicut is a very promising branch despite being an underrated and newly introduced branch and has become an important part of NIT Calicut. This branch also has a dedicated department for nanotechnology. Recently they have made their college proud by preparing and distributing hand sanitizer in the entire campus and also in local sections of society to fight against the coronavirus pandemic.  The placements of this department are not as great as in the computer science department as it is a newly introduced branch.  This is a research-oriented branch with a strong alumni network. Material Science is definitely a promising field and offers a lot of opportunities in higher studies. If you love nanoscience then you should go for this course. Read more

Ques. Is it better to take metallurgy in NIT Rourkela or electrical in NIT Silchar?

● Top Answer By Rituparna Hazra on 05 Jul 21

Ans. You need to compare the two universities to make a decision between the two. Having friends studying in both the institutes, I might be able to help you with the question. Metallurgy at NIT Rourkela: Campus-wise, the college has a very large campus. But, if you are planning to pursue metallurgy, let me tell you that you will have lesser job opportunities in both the public and private sectors in India. You might have to shift to another country to get a well-paying job and earn decently in your field of study. Electrical at NIT Silchar: There are also some really good facilities here including the largest digital library in South Asia. The campus is really good too. The placement records are amazing. Moreover, electrical is an evergreen branch with decent scope in the public sector. This would surely make a good alternative. Categories Metallurgy in NIT Rourkela Electrical at NIT Silchar Course Fee 6.40 lakh 5.42 lakh Highest CTC 10-12 LPA 15-18 LPA Average CTC 6-7 LPA 6 LPA Recruiting Companies Tata, Jindal, Hindalco, Vedanta, etc. Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Arcesium, Mu Sigma, etc. Finally, it all boils down to your interests and which field you prefer more. Both fields come with their own pros and cons.Read more

Ques. Which is better, VNIT for metallurgy or NIT Raipur for IT?

● Top Answer By Kaushal Madnani on 15 Apr 21

Ans. One of my acquaintances who has graduated from VNIT has asked me to choose my institute by keeping the following points in mind. VNIT for metallurgy would be a suitable choice for you if you don’t have a particular liking. Apart from that, the metallurgy of VNIT holds an enviable position in India. The syllabus for metallurgy is vast and involves a lot of memorization. If you want CS and unfortunately end up not getting it, the next logical step would be to choose IT. The syllabus of IT and CS are almost the same. In the big picture, it will have little importance if you complete your B.Tech from VNIT or NIT Raipur. You will have a degree and you will not regret the decision you made. IT has a lot of scopes. Later down the road, if you want to continue with your higher studies, you will be capable of switching to almost any department pertaining to computers. IT from NIT Raipur is an excellent choice. The scope in the metallurgy sector is limited nowadays. It is obviously your call, though. There is vast scope in IT like research, job, etc.Read more

Ques. Have I made the right decision by dropping the BITS Pilani EEE branch for IIT Madras for metallurgy?

● Top Answer By Madhav Aneja on 28 Mar 23

Ans. In my opinion, you have made the right decision by dropping the PITS Pilani EEE branch for IIT Madras Metallurgy. My cousin was forced to take IIT Madras Metallurgy by his mother. Initially, he was disappointed but his mother advised him to continue with the same enthusiasm he cleared JEE. Many students after getting admission relax and this opens opportunities for those who continue to slog even after admission. Your ultimate goal should be to change your branch for which you will have to work hard. This can be done by staying among the top 5% of the batch with around 9 CGPA. You can switch to Mechanical and even to Electrical sometimes with a good CGPA. All you have to do is Focus on your subjects Do well in the tutorials Perform well on quiz  Ace your practicals  Score high in the Final semester exam IIT Madras has a plethora of subjects to choose from in addition to a dual degree. You can change your branch provided your academic performance is at par with the requirements in the 3rd year. Some other highlights that might convince you further to choose IIT Madras are Creative clubs like C5 help in harnessing skills in your area of interest. These clubs have made amazing innovations and you can always learn so much by being a part of them. The unique Research Park which is the IIT Madras incubation center  Extracurricular activities such as Yoga, 5-star Gym, long-distance running, etc. The Institute operates under the leadership of highly learned alumni and so are most of the Deans. Air-conditioned Central library that is stacked with resources All these are unique to IIT Madras and thus it’s a better option than BITS Pilani.Read more
