PTE IELTS score card Update
The latest update in PTE score comparison concordance to IELTS score has changed the
dynamics of its popularity.
PTE Academic | <29 | 30 | 36 | 42 | 50 | 58 | 65 | 73 | 79 | 83 | 86 |
PTE Academic(Updated) | <22 | 23 | 29 | 36 | 46 | 56 | 66 | 76 | 84 | 89 | N/A |
IELTS | 0-4.0 | 4.5 | 5.0 | 5.5 | 6.0 | 6.5 | 7.0 | 7.5 | 8.0 | 8.5 | 9.0 |
Till 6.5 bands in IELTS, the score of PTE is reduced. It means that PTE has made things easier for students. Students, for this very reason, would not opt for Australia and NZ more. Generally, for academic purposes (further studies), a student required 5.5 to 6 bands in IELTS equivalent to 50-58. Making things easier, now it is 36-46. Personally, I came across many students who were too poor to get 50, and they would be stuck at 45 is good news for them.
On the other hand, PTE has screwed those who seek permanent residency. Things for PR applicants have become tougher. Even chaps with good English used to struggle to get 79; they’d now have to bend on their backs to get 84. Those who enjoyed saying 8.5 bands equivalent score by scoring 83 will have to settle down with 7.5 bands. Obviously, getting 90 in PTE actually never meant 9 bands in IELTS because the latter is hypothetical. Showing the true side, now PTE accepted that their total score of 90 could not equal 9 bands.

How PTE Overall Score Is Calculated?
A thorough look at the Pearson PTE score card shows the complicated PTE score calculation process – First the average of the enabling skills is obtained. Communicative skills have 4 components – reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The average of enabling skills is considered as the 5th component. The average of these 5 components is rounded off to get the Overall PTE score.
In case the average is 88 is considered as 90. This calculation is a bit complicated and PTE score card analysis is 100% accurate. A few PTE mock tests with score cards demonstrate this PTE score calculation process in detail.
Here is a PTE score card sample to give you an idea about how a PTE scorecard looks.
