PTE Speaking is one of the four modules in the PTE exam apart from reading, writing and listening. The PTE test includes the section of PTE Speaking to test the speaking skills of students willing to study in different universities of the UK, US, Australia, New Zealand and other European nations.

PTE Speaking Module Overview 

PTE pattern comprises speaking and writing, listening and reading. PTE Speaking module includes eight sections and each of them have different tasks. For each section, the number of items, scores, timings as well as the criteria of marking is different. Students appearing for the PTE Speaking test need to be aware of the PTE Speaking Module and consider PTE Speaking test practice as part of their preparation. The PTE Speaking module is 54-67 minutes long. The speaking module in PTE that includes several sections have been included in the following table along with the number of items, tasks involved,

PTE Speaking Personal Introduction 

The introduction section in PTE Speaking test is where you need to introduce yourself to the institution. A student has 25 seconds for reading the prompt and 30 seconds for recording their answer. This section does not include any score but is important because it is sent to the institution along with the PTE Score report.

PTE Speaking Read Aloud 

PTE Speaking read aloud is the first item in the PTE Speaking module for which the student needs to read aloud in PTE the written text. The student for reading aloud in PTE would have a total of 30-40 seconds to read the text and prepare for PTE Speaking read aloud. A recording box would be displayed which would open a microphone after the countdown. It is important that you speak only after you hear a short tone before which your response will not be recorded.

PTE Speaking Read Aloud

The preparation time of 30-40 seconds for reading aloud in PTE would help you to identify the punctuation areas where you would be able to make pauses and read more fluently. If anyhow you realize you made a mistake, do not stop and continue until you finish reading the text. Pausing for more than 3 seconds would stop the recording. It is important that students when appearing in read aloud in PTE need to stress on words in the given text which are significant and hence, speak loudly. This item for PTE Speaking read aloud is scored based on content, oral fluency and pronunciation. PTE speaking read aloud would record the response only once and for higher band score the student need to be confident and calm.

Repeat Sentence PTE 

For this item in the PTE speaking test, audio is played which students need to hear clearly and when the audio finishes a microphone appears displaying “recording”. Students need to ensure that they start speaking immediately when the sign of recording is displayed as no short tone would be played, unlike the PTE speaking read aloud item. Students are required to speak clearly without any rush during their Repeat Sentence PTE. The progress bar for repeat sentence PTE would change from “recording” to “completed” considering which students need to finish speaking before the bar changes. In this item of the speaking module in PTE, students are allowed to record only once.

For repeat sentence PTE, students would score based on the word sequences that the student produces. Accordingly, the student needs to understand the number of phrases and the reproduction of sentences would be better in their PTE Speaking test. The PTE speaking test for repeat sentence PTE requires you to make mental notes of stress and intonation patterns that would convey the meaning of the sentence that you speak. There is no credit awarded for irrelevant or no response from the student and partial credit is applicable for repeat sentence items in the PTE speaking module.

Describe Image PTE

Describe image PTE is the item in the speaking module in PTE that includes a PTE speaking question based on an image displayed for the student. With the microphone opening after the countdown, the student would have 25 seconds to study the image and prepare its response. They need to start speaking immediately after the short tone is played and speak clearly for Describe Image PTE. The response for the speaking module in PTE in this item is recorded once.

Describe Image PTE

Attempting the PTE speaking question, Describe image PTE requires students to focus on the image carefully and use the erasable note board booklet to point down key ideas and phrases from the image. It is advised that students are able to organize the main aspects of the image for answering the PTE speaking question better. Students need to undertake speaking practice test for PTE preparation. PTE Score for this describe image PTE is based on regional and national varieties of pronouncing English and would be marked based on content, oral fluency and pronunciation.

Retell Lecture PTE 

For retell lecture PTE, the speaking question is based on playing audio with an image in relevance to the audio. When the audio ends for retell lecture PTE, you would have ten seconds to prepare your answer for the PTE speaking test. Considering that the PTE speaking question would include an image with the audio, students need to look at the image clearly and think about the vocabulary that they would hear finding relevance with the image. This would allow you to predict the topic of the retell lecture PTE for the PTE speaking test.

Retail Lecture PTE

Students need to ensure that the 40 seconds time that they would receive for answering the PTE speaking question, they make good use of the time and avoid any mistakes for retell lecture PTE. PTE score for this item is also based on content, oral fluency and pronunciation.

Answer Short Question PTE 

The PTE Speaking retell lecture includes a PTE Speaking question through audio and image which the student needs to listen to properly for Answer Short question PTE. When the audio stops and the microphone appears, the student needs to answer the PTE speaking question immediately and clearly.

It is advised that when responding to the PTE speaking question for Answer Short question PTE, you do not pause for too long as waiting more than three seconds would stop recording. Answer Short question PTE is for short answers within 10 seconds and uses a few words and sentences to respond. The score for PTE speaking answer short questions is based on the ability of the student to provide an accurate response in brief. Like Speaking, PTE Listening measures the integrated listening and speaking skills of the candidates. PTE speaking affects the students' scores in terms of listening and speaking skills and tests their vocabulary in the Answer Short question PTE. Students may use the PTE mock test as a guide for preparing this item.

Summarize Written Text PTE

Speaking module in PTE has its next for summarizing written text PTE for which the students have a total of ten minutes to write the summary. Accordingly, the PTE speaking question would include a text that would require the students to answer in one single sentence the main points of the summary, not more than 75 words. You will be able to see the number of words you write on your screen to summarize written text PTE.

Summrize Written Text PTE

While constructing the summarise written text PTE you can also cut, copy and paste words and texts. It is advised that the PTE summary is based on one sentence completely and no more than 75 words are used within the response.
This section is mainly scored by students based on their form, grammar, vocabulary and content while the scores are recorded incorrect or incorrect basis

PTE Writing Essay

The speaking question for the PTE essay provides a topic to the student on which the student is required to respond in no more than 200-300 words. Students would be provided with a time duration of 20 minutes to complete the essay. The use of the cut, copy and paste buttons can be made by the students. It is advised that students are able to analyze the PTE Writing essay topic clearly and note key points. PTE Essay prompts can be made by the students for responding to the essay of the speaking module in PTE.

PTE Speaking Preparation Tips 

Students are advised to consider the PTE speaking test practice as part of their preparation for the PTE speaking test. There are certain tips that students should follow as can be evaluated underneath:

  • Students need to ensure that while they appear for their PTE speaking test they are able to speak neither too slow nor too fast.
  • Read aloud in PTE is the section where students need to present their words and sentences in a confident and calm manner.
  • Students should not pause or repeat themselves unnecessarily while enabling their PTE speaking test
  • In order to top PTE speaking students need to keep themselves prepared by following the PTE speaking test practice
  • For every section, students are advised to take speaking mock test PTE as part of their preparation schedule.
