A preposition is defined as a group of words that are assigned the connection between noun or pronoun along with the object to form a significant sentence.

• It specified the object area or the action time. There is a range of prepositions such as at, by, for, from, in, of, on, to and with. 
• Apart from the proposition mentioned above, there are some other sets of prepositions those are after, before, about, within, without, near, off, out of, until, above, below, beneath, under, across, against, among, around, behind, beside, between, close to, because of, down, during, except, along, inside, outside, instead of, into, on top of, onto, over, past, since, through, toward, until, up, upon.

Example: “The cat sits on the chair.” 

CAT VARC Preparation: Different Types of Prepositions

In the below section, different types of prepositions with some examples are mentioned. 

Simple Prepositions: In this type of preposition words like in, at, on, under, over, for, off, etc. are used. Here, the location or the area are defined with this preposition. 

Examples:

• All the vegetables are in the fridge.
• He kept his shoes under the box.

Double Prepositions: In this type, two Simple Prepositions are always used together. The words into, onto, upon, out of, from within, etc. are used.

Examples:

• It is totally up to you what you decide for the next trip.
• He never goes outside without his car.

Compound Prepositions: Compound Prepositions are also explained as Complex Prepositions. It comprises more than two words. With the help of this, a situation is explained. There are some expressions used such as Compound Prepositions are on behalf of, in the middle of, etc.

Examples:

• He received the prize on behalf of his friend.
• She was waiting for her friend in front of the restaurant.

Participle Prepositions: Participle Prepositions are those which ends with -ed and -ing. For example, there are some words like during, considering, etc. are this kind of prepositions. 

Examples:

• She used to go to a cafe during her break time.
• The meeting was held regarding the result of the class test. 

Phrase Prepositions: This type is known as prepositional phrases. It defines a connection between an object with the object’s modifier like at home, on time, after the class and before dawn.

Examples:

• He will attend the meeting on time.
• The dog sat under the chair.
• Dolly does not share the present which she re
  ceived from her parents.
