Mechanical engineering in IIT Bhubaneswar is one of the best branches to study. Last year in 2019, the placement in this branch from this institute was 85%. Apart from this, the institute also started dual degree programs in Mechanical engineering apart from the four-year Btech course.
The IIT Bhubaneswar has the best faculty in mechanical engineering with most of them being from IIT Kharagpur. From the very beginning of 1st year, the IIT Bhubaneswar provides an opportunity for the students to work on their projects by giving them access to DIC (Design Innovation Centre).
IIT Dhanbad is best for pursuing mechanical engineering. It provides students with top-notch academic resources and amenities. Additionally, the placements are fairly decent. Every year, between 70 and 80 percent of students in the mechanical stream get placed. The former is better IIT Dhanbad was established in 1926 whereas IIT Jodhpur came in 2008. In terms of placement, faculty, ranking, and academic excellence IIT Dhanbad stays in the upper hand for pursuing mechanical engineering than IIT Jodhpur. The reasons for choosing IIT Dhanbad are as follows:
In conclusion, IIT Dhanbad would be a great place to study mechanical engineering. With its long-standing reputation, knowledgeable faculty, employment opportunities, and a campus that is well-equipped. It cultivates a setting that is advantageous for both academic and personal growth.
It’s difficult to determine which institute is better as the courses in question are different. However, given below are information about the two courses which may help you make the decision.
The final decision is up to the choice of a student and his/her preferred course of study.
The IIT Bhubaneswar placement in 2019 was quite good irrespective of the different streams and courses. Companies like Google and Amazon offer huge placement packages for IIT Bhubaneswar students. The IIT Bhubaneswar also collaborates with foreign universities like the University of Massachusetts, University of Warwick, McGill University, etc.
Out of the 35 students in the Mechanical Engineering domain with mechanical system design specialization, 32 of them got secured positions in campus placements. There has been a placement record of 83% for this domain in 2019 with an average salary of 11.44 LPA. A total of 89 companies visited IIT Bhubaneswar and among these were ISRO, IOCL, TATA STEEL, TESCO, etc.
Despite being a new IIT, IIT Bhubaneswar offers decent placement for mechanical system design specialization and is considered as one of the centers of attraction for Indian students.
Being one of the top IITs in the country, IIT B offers a great placement average for Civil Engineering students. During the 2021 placement drive, the highest CTC offered to Civil Engineering students was 60 LPA. While the average CTC stays around INR 5 LPA for the branch.
The placement rate for Mechanical Engineering students at IIT BHU is around 85-90%. The average CTC offered is around INR 12 LPA.
I don’t know much about other IITs and am familiar with the situation in IIT Patna only. My brother is currently a student there in the Electrical branch. He says that the situation here is nothing that people with preconceived notions regarding Patna or Bihar think it to be.
IIT Patna UG EE Courses are great and it’s considered the toughest branch for a UG student like any other IITs. However, the curriculum here is very diverse and you will be introduced to both Electrical and Electronics and you can decide which one intrigues you more. You can pursue Coding and Open Source Development too as an electrical student. You will be surprised to know that IIT Patna’s best coded is a senior m of the EE Branch who cleared Google Code Jam and was also part of this year’s ACM-ICPC Team which qualified for the World Final and secured 56 Rank. There are many other examples of students who cleared GSoC.
IIT Patna also encourages its students to pursue research or go for Higher Studies. The professors and seniors offer relentless support.
The best part of IIT Patna is the plethora of options and opportunities you will have after 4 years!
Both the ECE and Mechanical courses are good, so you should choose the course you are interested in.
The first batch of Electronics and communication batch in IIT Bhubaneswar will pass out in 2020 which is why placement stats are not available. However, IIT Bhubaneswar had a good placement record in the academic year 2018-19, 90% of students got placed with an average of 11.4 LPA from IIT Bhubaneswar.
Out of 32 students, 29 students in the mechanical branch got placed in reputed companies with an attractive package in IIT Indore in 2018. The highest package was offered was HPCL that is 16 i.e. lakhs. The average package in IIT Indore was 9.13 LPA. The top recruiters who come for placement in IIT Indore for mechanical are ISRO, TATA MOTORS, HPCL, L&T.
The faculties at both the IITs are outstanding. Now, coming to course Electronics courses falls between in the middle of core and software. So, Electronics students get jobs quite easily in the software domain also. ECE students have a wider scope than the mechanical branch. If you compare college then IIT Indore will be the better option than IIT Bhubaneswar but if your interest is in the subject then ECE will be a better choice than mechanical.

I have completed my BTech in Mechanical from LPU in 2021. The few things that worked for me and proved that LPU was a great choice included reasons like placements, syllabus, faculty, ranking, accreditations and more. I have listed some of them down for your reference.LPU is one of the top universities in India and offers great training in this area. It is easy to find employment as well through campus placements which makes it a good choice. Several top companies visit LPU during the placement season. During my placements, tech giants such as TCS, IBM, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc offered job opportunities to us. LPU also collaborates with companies to offer hands-on training and projects to focus on the practical aspect of studies. The collaborations also helped us to secure job placements as mechanical engineering graduates.
Apart from the placements, the updated curriculum is also a great advantage. LPU students also have all the facilities at one place. You can enroll for extracurricular activities such as swimming, take part in competitions or societies, and cultural events. The hostel is fully equipped as well and there is a gym too. Modern labs, extensive libraries, and advanced infrastructure along with a knowledgable faculty was also something that gave LPU an edge.In conclusion, Lovely Professional University stands out as a great choice if you want to pursue mechanical engineering.
