I joined SBI as a PO in 2015 and currently a scale 2 officer. Is it wise to leave SBI for an MBA from NMIMS Mumbai, SIBM Pune or MDI Gurgaon? Also, I do not want to continue in SBI.

MBA BM from XLRI (2020)

Since you do not want to continue with SBI due to whatever reasons, so it would be a better option to follow what you want to and don’t continue in your job. Now, you have three options to choose what you want to do:-

  • You can resign your current job and search for a job in a private bank. This option might not be a feasible one as the entry-level pay at SBI is much more lucrative than other banks. Your experience might not be valued in case you do not have much of it.
  • You can go for an MBA from NMIMS Mumbai, SIBM Pune, or MDI Gurgaon. In this case, your experience will be valued during the placement process and you will be an eligible contender for middle management jobs in private banks and you may also explore new fields like corporate finance or trade finance.
  • The other option is to wait for two more years of experience and pursue a one-year MBA provided you are ready to continue in SBI for two more years. Furthermore, there are other factors as well like GMAT score you get after two years.

Is it worth paying the higher fees to go to ISB? Why?

TK
T Umesh Kumar Posted On : January 30th, 2023
AMPH from Indian School of Business

My answer is going to be extremely biased as my sister has been a victim of ISB Hyderabad’s high fees and poor placement opportunities. This answer is meant to shed some light on this issue.

ISB Hyderabad MBA fees are currently INR 41,98,000 (plus GST) while the batch size is around 900. The Institute has failed to cater to the huge batch size and has witnessed a decline in the quality of education and placements in ISB Hyderabad.

The best roles are very scarce and are given only to the students with the top grades. Others end up with below-average packages. As far as the specialization is concerned, Finance jobs are almost non-existent at ISB Hyderabad. Consulting is one of the leading domains here and the top 3 firms do visit the campus. But the number of roles offered by them is not enough for the huge batch.

The other roles offered are mediocre and not at par with the hefty fees 900 students have paid. They expect better packages and after realizing the actual scenario feel wronged.

ISB Hyderabad MBA is not suitable if

  • you earn around 16 Llacs with more than 3 years of work experience
  • you are a software engineer in top product companies
  • you are already from a good engineering college like IITs, BITS, and Top NITs

So we can safely conclude that ISB Hyderabad is an overrated Institute and its rankings are misleading. The reality of the institute begs to differ.

What is it like to study at IISc Bangalore?

SP
Sreeram Panwar Posted On : August 17th, 2020
Ph.D Microelectronics & Analog Integrated Circuit Design, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (2020)

IISc - Indian Institute of Science - seems like a different world. There are many elite institutions and universities in India, but IISc is one of its kind.

The first thing every student feels after entering the serene and green campus of IISc is belongingness. Every student immediately connects to this beautiful campus. The vision of Jamsedji Tata and the advice of Swami Vivekananda, combined with the generosity of Maharaja of Mysore state Shri Krishnaraja Wodeyar lead to the formation of IISc. There is a statue of Jamsedji Tata that overlooks the main building of the institute.

Most of the students join IISc owing to a genuine interest in their respective subjects and fields. Being mainly a research institution, IISc attracts post-graduate and doctoral students across numerous fields of science and engineering streams. There are over 25 departments that belong to either pure sciences, applied sciences, or engineering streams.

The atmosphere is very calm and ideal for academics. There is hostel accommodation inside the campus. The food provided in the hostel is hygienic and is also food joints near the campus.

Students enjoy academic freedom thoroughly here. It is not uncommon to find a student of electrical engineering sitting in a class of advanced mathematics. Even professors do that. They attend classes and take notes along with the students. Students are free to sit in any lecture (though, with the permission of the advisor, who generally obliges). One can see students from different departments discussing their work, sharing ideas, and even collaborating. There are also public lectures that students can attend.

There is a placement cell, but several students, including Masters degree holders, opt to go for jobs that are inclined towards research, and not the usual high-paying corporate jobs.

Apart from research, a lot of campus activities are there. There are plenty of student clubs, such as Literary Club, IISc Cycling Club, IISc Gymkhana, etc. The institute organizes a technical and cultural fest, Pravega.

What is the cut off rank to get btech in CSE in MPSTME, NMIMS through NPAT?

AG

Usually, students ranking in the top 300, get CSE, or IT at MPSTME, NMIMS. But this is just a tentative score. There is no such specific cutoff system. NMIMS Cutoff varies each year depending on the availability of seats.

So, try to score a good rank, to be safe. Since most students choose CSE or IT, the required cutoff remains high.

Is IIM Trichy the best among new IIMs?

AM
Apala Mishra Posted On : January 21st, 2023
Studied Marketing at Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India

It would not be right to question the idea of ranking institutes based on metrics such as the highest CTC (cost to company) offered to graduates, or the perceived quality of the companies that hire graduates. It is not the institute itself that determines a person's success, but rather the individual's own actions and what they do with the education they receive. You also emphasize the importance of academic and personal discipline, which you believe are more valuable than material success.

People believe that everyone who studies at any IIM has the potential to be successful, but not necessarily in the sense of earning a high salary or getting a high-paying job. Instead, the true value of an institute lies in the knowledge and skills that a person gains, and how they use them to make a positive impact in the world. Ultimately, it is up to the individual to determine their own success and make the most of the opportunities they receive. You will have a positive experience studying at IIM Trichy, but it will not be fair or accurate to claim that it is the best new IIM.

Which IIM to prefer out of 6 new IIMs (IIM Kashipur, IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Rohtak, IIM Udaipur, IIM Tiruchirappalli)?

SJ
Shruti Jaiswal Posted On : February 16th, 2023
Studied MBA in Marketing at Indian Institutes of Management (2020)

Since almost all the new IIMs have a common performance rate these days, it’s quite a dilemma to choose one among them. Some make their choices on the basis of placement reports while others prefer locational and campus-related factors.

Let me give you 2 solid reasons why placement reports are not a good basis for judgment.

  1. The salaries mentioned in the placement reports are on CTC basis and therefore would be highly inflated as is the case with all Indian B-School.
  2. If you look closely at the placement reports of the new IIMs, you will see that the figures are almost the same.

This can leave you more confused.

Another factor people consider is the location. Apart from Rohtak, almost every IIM has a locational issue. Even the faculty and pedagogy are similar. So the overall difference in these colleges is completely dependent on your mindset and willingness to struggle.

Now I have come up with a unique parameter to make your decision a tad bit easier. This factor is the specialization you are willing to pursue. To make it easier, let’s consider the following specializations and the IIMs that excel in each of these respective categories.

  • Human Resources: For this specialization, the best among the new IIMs are IIM Ranchi and IIM Trichy.
  • Marketing: If you are interested in the Marketing domain, the best options for you are IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, and IIM Udaipur.
  • Finance: For a stable career in Finance the preferred IIMs include IIM Trichy and IIM Udaipur.

However, for this, you need to be certain of the field you are interested in. In case you are not yet certain, go for any one of these 3; Ranchi, Raipur, or Trichy.

How academically intense is the MBA at IIM Ahmedabad?

RS
Rajanya Sinha Posted On : May 26th, 2022
studied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (2019)

Academically an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad is extremely grueling. There’s a lot to read, lot to do, and very little time.

The three classes every day is the easiest part. The real pandemonium starts when the bell strikes 1:10 pm. Students rush to the mess to have their lunch and wait for the surprise test notification. The notification usually comes around 1:30 pm. You can breathe easy if no notification came. If you get a surprise test, you will have to start ruffling through books and previous notes to prepare for it.

Each day, you will have to prepare 2-3 cases for the next. You also need to read the cases (15-30 pages long) and make a crisp presentation including your understanding. You also need to take care of assignments. During the second term, you will have to prepare for the summer placements, along with the usual academics. You have to refine your resume, meet with your placement adviser, and take part in club activities and interest groups.

Basically, you will be subjected to human stress testing during your MBA at IIM Ahmedabad. You will be put through every conceivable difficulty you may face in your professional life.

Why is NIT Trichy so overrated?

AG
Aditi Ghose Posted On : July 18th, 2023
studied at National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India

I think, bringing down the reputation of top institutes and falsely defaming them has become a trend just to get more comments and attention. It's the students who are unable to make it into IITs and NITs that can be seen calling them overrated, overhyped, etc.

NIT Trichy is a highly regarded institute and is considered better than most of the IITs. If anything it is underrated just because it lacks the so-called IIT tag. One of my friends is an alumnus of NIT Trichy and claims its research output to be way higher than those of IITs and in fact some IIMs.

Placements-wise too, NIT Trichy is doing excellent and NIT Trichy Placements 2022 recorded the highest package of INR 40 LPA. Its excellent rankings are also a testament to its worth and credibility. In the engineering category, NIT Trichy ranks 8th right below the top 7 IITs, and above IIT Hyderabad.

NIT Trichy is worth the hype it deserves in terms of all; placements, ranking, and research.
