What specifications can I expect out of the laptop I am likely to get at the onset in KIIT?

YG
Yasmeena Grover Posted On : August 31st, 2021
Studies Electrical Engineering at KIIT (2020)

I have a friend who is an alumnus of KIIT. He was able to provide the specification of the laptop offered to students in the 2016 batch.

  • Laptop Model: Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 460
  • Type or Mode of Laptop: Convertible Laptop and Touch Screen
  • Display Size and Type: 14 inches (Full HD, Anti Glare)
  • Pixel Density: 210 PPI
  • Resolution: 1920 x 1080 px
  • Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 940M (2 GB dedicated, 6 GB dynamic)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 processor (6th Generation; it offers a maximum of2.71 GHz clock speed)
  • RAM: 8GB (RAM Speed: 1600 MHz)
  • HDD: 1TB
  • Backlit Keyboard
  • Fingerprint Scanner
  • Webcam (720p)
  • Carbon Magnesium Alloy Body (The feature is in itself a very dynamic one. It comes with a serious fingerprint magnet)

However, there is no ethernet port. In contrast, the university does not also provide any LAN connection, so you eventually do not need the ethernet port anyway.

The laptops provided to the students do not usually come with a ThinkPad pro stylus when they generally should. In the case of gaming, they work seamlessly. Thus, it should not be an issue to be concerned about.

Can anyone guide me regarding what kind of questions are asked in NITIE Mumbai for PGDIE intakes?

SV
Sagun Verma Posted On : March 24th, 2022
studied PGDIE at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

A friend of mine appeared for the PGDIE interview of NITIE Mumbai, a few years back. He is a Mechanical Engineering graduate. Around 70% of the interview questions were about his profile and his B.Tech project. There were some questions from his graduation subjects as well. During the interview, they often ask technical questions like, ‘Why NITIE?’, ‘What is your career goal?’, etc.

NITIE selection criteria assign more weightage to the GATE score. If you have a decent GATE score, you will have an edge over others. But don’t take the GD-PI round lightly.

Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs): What are the facilities at an IIT hostel?

AG
Anamika Gupta Posted On : February 17th, 2022
M.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay

Some of my friends are IIT Madras alumni. Here is their insight into the hostel facilities of the institute.

  • The hostels have 24 hours internet connection. Internet speed goes up to 100 Mbps. There’s a 1GB per day data usage cap.
  • There is an airconditioned tech room that stays open 24 hours a day. The tech rooms have power tools. You can use the tools to get simple carpentry stuff done.
  • You will have access to the Center of Innovation, a tech-conductive facility. Among other things, it has a 3D printing machine, a workstation for carrying out powerful stimulations. Most tech junkies on campus usually crowd over there.
  • Every hostel usually has a hostel room, a TV room, a computer room, and an indoor games room. All basic amenities are available in the hostels along with washing machines and portable water supply.
  • The hostel rooms can feel a bit constricted at times. But every hostel has a huge central ground.
  • Power cuts are quite rare. There are also utility support staffs to help you out even during night.
  • The HUL snack station stays open from evening to late at night every day. There are also many eateries near the campus.

A unique trait of the IIT Madras campus is its forested area. Although it is outside the boundaries of the hostel zone, you can wander off to this area when you need a Psychological high.

What are the worst things about bit mesra?

AB
Arun Biswas Posted On : August 9th, 2023
Studied at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra

Every coin has two sides and likewise, every institute has its strengths and weaknesses. BIT Mesra has a number of flaws pertaining to its education and culture. I have listed a few

  • One of the biggest cons of this institute is that students aren’t encouraged or inclined towards research and innovations at all. All they care about is getting a decent GOA and eventually a job.
  • The faculty is least interested in conducting quality research and discovery. They just conduct monotonous classes for the sake of it just to earn money.
  • The institute has excellent infrastructure but its utility is poor. There are supercomputers and computational tools, however, they aren’t used to the fullest to bring big achievements.
  • Even in this age and era, students are judged on the basis of personal relationships, attendance count; and GPA.
  • The focus on securing a high GPA has definitely affected the quality of education and resulted in a rat race for placements.

I really hope the institute makes amendments and brings about a massive research culture soon!

Is 28 too old for IIM?

AP
Arpit Prajapati Posted On : April 27th, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

No, age is not the limit when considering an MBA from IIMs. In fact, the peer group comprises students of diverse age brackets and backgrounds.

One of my friends age 26 recently got admission to IIM Bangalore. He notice most of his batchmates were young and fresh from college but the overall learning experience was very empowering and diverse. While others might question your decision and try to demotivate you, remember only you know your real worth. Don’t let others' opinions weigh you down and give up something you dreamed of.

My cousin completed his engineering, went to MIT, and even has his own start-up, but is currently pursuing PGPM in IIM Bangalore. This clearly proves that there is no right time or age for an MBA. Most importantly, if the admission committee of IIMs deems you suitable for an MBA, then your age should be your last concern.

What marks are required in the IISER aptitude test in order to get admission in any of the IISERs? Also, what rank in the JEE (Advanced) is good enough?

Sayantani Barman Posted On : October 23rd, 2023

The cutoff for IISER aptitude test does not remain constant. It changes every year.

Its difficulty is of JEE Mains level, with a few JEE Advanced level questions.

The results are declared within 2 days from the test. If selected, your name and the allotted IISER will be listed. They do not display the cutoff or candidate score/percentile.

Attempt the questions that you are sure of. Try to avoid negative marking as much as possible. Though the Bio section is simple, do not guess the answers. Some of my friends attempted less than 5 Bio questions and still qualified. I am not aware of the qualifying JEE Advanced rank.

How is the campus selection of a student in KIIT? Should we join KIIT as a good college or not?

Satyam Purwar Posted On : February 13th, 2024

Campus placements are good for CS and IT students at KIIT. The university offers good facilities and faculty. It provides ample exposure to the students so that they can develop and enhance their personalities. The university authorities are very strict about academics. They give a lot of importance to lecture attendance and grades of the students.

This makes KIIT a good choice for sincere students. Plus, KIIT is better ranked than most other colleges in its close vicinity. Some of the top recruiters of KIIT University are Accenture, Adani Wilmar, Amazon, HCL Technologies, Capgemini, KPMG, etc.

What branch can I get in SP or KJ Somaiya with 140 in the MH CET 2022?

ES
Epsita Sinha Posted On : July 20th, 2022
B.E. from K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering

You can get any branch at KJ Somaiya with 140 in MH CET 2022, if you have Gujrati minority. But if you are a general category student, getting branches like CSE/IT will be difficult with 140 scores. These are among the most opted branches and KJ Somaiya Cutoff remains above 150-160 for CSE/IT (general category).
