How much CGPA one must score in IIT (BHU) to change branch from mining to mechanical?

RS
Rohit Saha Posted On : June 16th, 2023
IIT BHU (2019)

The first semester at IIT BHU Mining branch has 6 subjects. All the students are required to get A/A* grades in all 4 Institute Courses sparing ED and ManuPrac.

  • Students willing to get into CSE should have CGPA >=9.80 for CSE.
  • For those interested in changing their branch to Mechanical, anywhere a CGPA of 9.2 is preferable. One must be among the top 9 students of their batch.
  • For branch change to Electrical, a CGPA>=9.6 is preferable given that you don’t have more than one A- in Institute Courses.

While filling out the branch change form, no one selects Metallurgy as an option so branch change to Metallurgy is very easy and you just need to be among the top 9.

Why is K.J. Somaiya so famous in Mumbai when I can’t see any mechanical placement there?

NS
Nandini Singh Posted On : December 26th, 2022
Studied Information Technology at K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering (Graduated 2020)

The first thing you need to understand is that a college's worth does not depend on its placements. It’s much more than that. Even if you don’t land a high package you might learn better skills than at any other college. The same is the case with KJ Somaiya, it offers the following advantages which overlook its average placement statistics

  • Comprehensive curriculum: The curriculum here is vast as it covers versatile audit courses like Entrepreneurship, Business Analytics, Sales, History of Mumbai.
  • No minimum attendance rule: The lack of a minimum attendance rule makes it possible for the students to engage more in extracurricular activities and thus leads to overall development.
  • Incubation center: KJ Somaiya’s incubation center Ridll has given birth to many entrepreneurs.
  • Experienced faculty: KJ Somaiya mechanical's department is as old as VJTI in terms of experience.

Also, the placement here is quite similar to other engineering colleges in Mumbai.

Can I get mechanical engineering at VSSUT Burla with an AIR of 1.19 lakh in the JEE Mains (I am from general category)?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : October 11th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

No, unfortunately, it’s not possible to get a seat in Mechanical Engineering at VSSUT with such a low rank. Usually, the cutoff for the general category is around 60-70k and your rank is far from the cutoff rank. However, if you are adamant about getting a mechanical seat you can opt for the branch change facility under which the top 10% of students of a branch can change their branch. For this, you need to secure a good CGPA in the semesters. But this option is very risky and unpredictable so consider all options.
