CUSAT B.Tech Eligibility Criteria

Students seeking admission into the B.Tech course must have completed their 10+2 in the Science stream with a minimum of 60% marks as an aggregate. Students belonging to the reserved category are provided with a relaxation of 5% in the aggregate marks.

CUSAT B.Tech Course Details

Approved by the Academic Council the curriculum and syllabus for B. Tech programs is prepared. It consists of General Core courses, Engineering Core courses, Elective courses, Humanities courses, and projects or seminars. All the branches follow a credit system for calculating the marks.

Course work extends for four years that is eight semesters.
The curriculum comprises a total of 176 credits.
Continuous assessments, assignments, and attendance are calculated for the total marks.
The performance of students is analyzed with the end-term examination conducted in each semester.

Ques. What are the Scholarships provided for BTech students at CUSAT?

Ans. Cochin University Welfare Association provides scholarships and financial assistance to the students. Based on the income, marks, state, and academic performance the students are provided with a waiver of the tuition fee. Rank openers and students on the merit list are also offered scholarships so that they can continue their studies.

Ques. Is CUSAT good for BTech?

Ans. After IIT's and NIT's, CUSAT is the best college to join. Being a Government college you have all the facilities and good academics offered. You get to experience at hands. Many workshops and activities are held and organized by the college so you can gain practical and Industrial skills. Placement opportunities are well provided by top most companies. So you will never regret joining CUSAT.

Ques. What is the pattern of the CUSAT Examination for the BTech admissions?

Ans. The Test consists of 250 multiple choice questions purely based on the +2 syllabus which is to be solved within a period of 180 minutes. The distribution of the number of questions per section is given below:

Mathematics: 125 questions
Physics: 75 questions
Chemistry: 50 questions

A minimum of 10 marks in each subject is mandatory for being qualified in the exam to be included in the rank list.

For correct answers, three marks are awarded and one mark is deducted for each wrong answer.

Ques. Is the CUSAT Examination tougher than JEE Main?

Ans. It is tough but not more than the JEE Mains. Anyways you prepare for JEE after your 12th and that preparation is enough to crack the entrance exam. It’s not about the tough or easy part. It's about the hard work and preparation you do to attend the exam. When you prepare well nothing is going to be difficult for you.

Ques. Can I change my branch after the first year in CUSAT BTech?

Ans. Yes, you can. Every college provides options for you to choose the interested branch. Usually, GPA is taken under consideration while changing. Unlike other colleges, CUSAT takes your CAT score for consideration. So you don’t have to worry even if your GPA is less.

What are the fees if I take an admission through the spot admission in CUSAT?

There is no difference between the fees for general round admission and the fees for spot admission. However, the fees for NRI spot admission are higher.

At the time of admission, INR 55- 60 thousand is charged in a general round admission.
For an NRI spot admission, you will be charged an amount of INR 2 Lakhs, out of which INR 1.25 Lakhs would be a security deposit.
This means that this amount would be returned to you once you finish college.

Talking about the semester fee, there is again a slight difference between general round admission and NRI spot admission. It is INR 43 thousand for general round admission and INR 55 thousand for NRI spot admission.

Is CUSAT a government college or a private college? What is its fee structure?

For home state students, the tuition fee is around 25-26k per semester, and for students from other states, it is around 45k per semester. This is the fee structure for B.Tech, for general and OBC category students.

Since you haven’t mentioned the course you are looking for, I have mentioned the CUSAT Fee Structure for the major courses

The fee for the BTech course is Rs. 46,600/-
The Fee for the BSc degree program is approximately Rs. 42,654/- for the first Semester
The fee for the MBA program is Rs. 26,555/- fee

Which course should I prefer in the CUSAT with a rank of 1,500 (general), and what courses are better in the CUSAT?

Your options at CUSAT will vary depending on your domicile. If you are from Kerala, you can expect to get almost any branch at CUSAT with your rank. In that case, opt for Ship Tech or Safety and Fire Engineering. CS is also a good option.

If you belong to some other state, you won’t get Ship Tech or Safety and Fire. You can get the second one during spot round, if you are lucky enough. So, you’ll be left with EEE, ECE, Civil, IT, CS and Mechanical as your options. Out of these, CS and ECE are the best choices at CUSAT.

Consider your options carefully, and make the decision accordingly.
