Although BHU has the best faculty and management, many students tend to leave BHU after a few days. They feel isolated and homesick. Also, the teachers have a lot of political influence. The administration does not let you take a stand for yourself. A lot of inter students riots take place here. What is the Paid Seat system at Banaras Hindu University (BHU)?

There are 2 types of seats in BHU: Regular seats Paid seats For the regular seats you need to pay minimal fees. For the paid seats, you have to pay an additional fee apart from the regular fee. If your rank is near the cutoff, then BHU offers paid seats to give you a second chance provided that you pay an additional fee. There are around 10% paid seats in every faculty. You have to apply separately at the time of counseling. Attend the counseling session to fill in your choice of combination. If your name appears in the list of 10% of students you can get admitted to the university after paying the fees and additional amount. This amount gets revised every year. My cousin was a student at IIT BHU in Varanasi. She shared her experience as to why she thinks it’s not a good branch for Mechanical Engineering. The professors are under qualified here. They have little knowledge about their own subjects and teach only bookish concepts. The classes are boring. Students attend classes merely for attendance. This is because even if you score good marks, you might fail if your attendance is less than 75% in that particular subject. The numerical answers are not checked through the stepwise method. That is your method to solve has no value if your answer is wrong. Professors here are not well versed with the relative grading system. This affects the CGPA of many students. Placements are mediocre here. Only non core sectors like coding and analytics get placement opportunities. The salaries offered are also very low. Labs are not equipped with modern tools. The students get no practical exposure. The conclusion from her experience was that the professors in Mechanical Engineering at Varanasi IIT are bringing down the results of students terribly.

How good it is to do MBA from faculty of commerce BHU?

My sister’s friend could not score a good rank in engineering but was lucky enough to get a seat in BHU UET for Maths Hons. The “Institute of Management Studies” which was previously known as FMS, or Faculty of Management Studies, and a “Faculty of Commerce”, offers MBA with different specializations. Appearing in CAT exams is mandatory for candidates if they want to get admission in the Institute of Management Studies, BHU. The institute takes the scores of CAT exams into consideration in order to shortlist the ones who meet the criteria for admission. MBA and MBA in International Business are two of the flagship courses offered by BHU. BHU conducts its own entrance exams called PET in the month of May for admission in the Faculty of Commerce. BHU Admission 2023

BHU admission process is completely online.
Admission to UG and PG courses will be done through Common University Entrance Test (CUET) conducted by NTA.
The registration process begins in the months of February and March.
Interested applicants can register themselves on the online portal (http://bhuonline.in/) or the official website of the University.
An application fee of INR 500 for GEN/OBC category and INR 250 for SC/ST/Ph candidates need to be paid.
For MBA and MBA (IB), the application fee is INR 1500 for GEN/OBC and INR 800 for SC/ST students.
Admissions are done according to merit in the entrance tests, subject to fulfilling other eligibility requirements.

BHU Reservations

The Banaras Hindu University provides reservations for the following categories:

15% & 7.5% seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates in each course respectively.
27% Reservation to candidates belonging to OBC category (excluding under creamy layer) will be provided in different courses.
3% seats shall be reserved for Physically Challenged Candidates: Visually Impaired (1%)+ Hearing Impaired (1%) + Orthopaedically Handicapped (1%)
15% of seats out of the total number of seats in M.P.Ed. are allocated for female candidates. In case any such seats remain vacant, these will be filled by male candidates on merit.
15% supernumerary seats in all the courses (including special courses) shall be available for the sons/daughters (including married daughters) of permanent employees (including those on probation) of BHU currently in service.

BHU Scholarships

The University provides financial help to deserving students under the Students’ Welfare Fund. Mentioned below are the details for the same:

50 poor students shall be provided Lunch and Dinner under “Free Meal Facility” for at least 7 months. In the case of female hostellers, they will be reimbursed the actual Mess charges.
20 blind students shall be entitled to get Free Lunch and Dinner and also an amount of INR 5000 per annum under “Annadaan Yojana”.
First and Second Rank holders will be awarded a Cash Prize of INR 4000 and INR 300 respectively.
An amount of INR 2000 per annum shall be granted as Financial Assistance to the students belonging to poor family background. This will be subject to a maximum of 100 students.
A one time grant of INR 4000 per student shall be provided to the Physically Handicapped students for their entire course tenure, subject to a maximum of 25 students.
Sleeper Class Rail Fare will be reimbursed to the students, other than research scholars, who participate in any national level seminar/symposia/conference.
A maximum of INR 5000 shall be provided as Financial Assistance for organizing Seminars/Workshops, at the Faculty/Institute level, which should be beneficial to the students, subject to a maximum of 10 Seminars/Symposia/Workshops per annum.

BHU Facilities

Hostel: BHU provides separate hostel accommodation facilities for both boys and girls. For boys there are 41 hostel accommodations available and for girls 21 hostels are available. Additionally there is a separate hostel for International students. Each hostel in BHU is equipped with the basic services such as water purifiers, TV, common room, mess, laundry services, recreation room, security and surveillance system and others.

Library: BHU provides a fully air conditioned cyber library for all its students. There are 115 departmental libraries which include nearly 1.5 million books, an uncountable number of journals, magazines, weeklies, multilingual newspapers, e-books can be found in the library. In other words, it is an educational paradise for the ones who are in a knowledge quest.

Sports Complex: Several facilities for sports and recreational activities are provided to the students by the University. The huge area of the University has badminton courts, basketball courts, cricket ground, football ground, squash court, swimming pool, tennis court, table tennis, mountaineering club, Flying club and many others. The University provides proficient coaches and space for practicing so that students can participate in various tournaments.

Labs: The University also provides many lab facilities for the students for experimenting purposes as per their course requirements. The different labs include, Chemistry lab, Physics lab, Biotechnology lab, Mechanical lab, Zoology lab, Computer lab, CAD-CAM lab and others.

To get admitted to BHU for any course there is an entrance examination. Earlier BHU conducted its own entrance but from 2023 students have to clear the cut-off of the Central University Entrance Test(CUET) conducted by the Government for all Central Universities. One can find the entrance exam form, dates and fees with all the guidelines on the CUET website. I belong to the general category, therefore, I availed the girl student benefit. Other benefits can be availed by the respective categories on submitting the required proofs. The improvement most required is constant official news to be released on the website regarding the dates of results, counselling and the rest of the process. It should be completed within a stipulated time period. The management should handle the technical and other faults more effectively to save the students from stress and uncertainty.

The year I took admission i.e. 2020, BHU held its own UET(University Entrance Test) for UG & PG Courses. For BA (Hons) courses, you need to be 12th passed irrespective of stream. "bhuonline.in" is the official website of BHU, and there you can apply for various UG & PG courses. But Starting in 2021, admission to BHU is through the All India CUET (Central University Entrance Test). This means, Now you can apply for courses in BHU through CUET only.

Offline Document verification must be on different dates for different courses because long queues are made there and we have to wait for an hour to get to the document verification Counter. Dates of Document verification must be announced at least 15 days prior. I am from Delhi and Getting train tickets was such a hassle at that time.

For admission in the Msc-mathematics course, students have to clear cuet-pg exam conducted by NTA every year. The eligibility for BHU Msc-mathematics is 50% marks in B.Sc. (Hons)/B.Sc. (10+2+3) as well as at 10 & 10+2 examinations. The application can be found on the official website of NTA. generally, application forms start in March-April. All the reservations provided by the Indian government are available as well as 10% of seats are reserved for BHU old students.

I had my high school with Biology stream. I moved to BHU for a better hold in Arts. Eligibility of course - Class 12 from any recognized board. Application is streamlined by CUET- UG. Application fees are decided by NTA annually. Reservation- Seats are reserved for various categories. Physically challenged students compulsorily get a hostel. The admission process is good. But they should maintain regular contact with students while admission.
