University of Petroleum and Energy Studies offers full-time PhD in 5 specializations. The doctoral program is offered for the duration of 4 years. - PhD (Full-Time): Master's degree or an equivalent professional degree with at least 60% aggregate.
- PhD (Part-Time): Master's degree or an equivalent professional degree with at least 60% aggregate.

The selection criteria for PhD full-time and part-time programs is as follows:
- Candidates must have a valid score in Research Entrance Test (RET) conducted by UPES.
- The candidates who have given UGC NET are exempted from RET.

Follow the below-mentioned steps to apply for the UPES PhD course:
Step 1: Visit the official website of the university.
Step 2: Click on the ‘Apply Online’ and select your resident status.
Step 3: Fill in all the details and click on ‘Submit’.
Step 4: After form submission, you will receive an email from UPES to verify your email address and to create an account on the website of the university.
Step 5: Log in to the website and fill out the application form.
Step 6: Click on ‘Submit’ and pay an application fee of INR 1,350 (US$ 75 for Foreign Residents) via online mode (Debit/ Credit Card/ Net Transfer).
