JEE Main Exam Pattern 2023- No new changes have been made in JEE Main Exam Pattern 2023. As per the latest JEE Main exam pattern, the question paper consists of two sections- Section A with 20 MCQs and Section B with 10 numerical value questions of which candidates have to attempt any five. Unlike the previous years’ both sections in JEE Main 2023 have a negative marking of -1.
- NTA had introduced this option of internal choices after the reduction in Class 12th syllabus in 2021. Also Check JEE Main 2023 Syllabus
- Another major change introduced in JEE Main Exam Pattern is that the exam is now conducted in 13 languages.
- It must be noted that in 2020, the total questions in B.E/B.Tech paper were reduced from 90 to 75, this change had been reversed in JEE Main 2021, however, the number of questions that were to be attempted per section remained the same i.e. 25.

JEE Main Questions
- JEE Main Syllabus is based on the NCERT curriculum, candidates must have their basics clear with regard to the CBSE syllabus of class 11 and 12 Chemistry, mathematics and physics.
- JEE Main Questions Mathematics: The mathematics section often is considered the toughest by the aspirants. It is time-consuming and therefore memorizing math questions will not help you score high in the test. The ideal time to complete one question of mathematics is about 92- 100 seconds.
- JEE Main Questions Physics: Physics questions are twisted and it is often seen as the toughest section in JEE Main. The trick to solve Physics Questions is to bring the problem to a familiar situation so that the complexity of it reduces. The ideal time to attempt a physics question is 85-90 seconds.
- JEE Main Questions Chemistry: JEE Main Chemistry is divided into Physical, Organic and Inorganic, Candidates are often advised to solve chemistry first in JEE Main Question Paper, as the solutions are direct in comparison to physics and math and therefore candidates can invest the extra time in the other 2 sections. Average ideal time to attempt a chemistry question is 60 – 65 seconds.

Paper Attempting Tips for JEE Main 2023
- Candidates are adviced to attempt the chemistry section first as there are a considerable number of direct questions in this section. Therefore this section is less time consuming and scoring than the other two.
- It is not advisable for candidates to try to attempt all the questions. Candidates should have a clear idea of how many questions they need to attempt accurately to get their desired percentage.
- Candidates must try to attempt graph-based questions as they are easy in terms of attempting. They can be approached with different parameters like inserting values etc to eliminate wrong options.
- Don’t give equal time to all the three sections. Experts suggest to give a maximum of 40-45 minutes to chemistry section and then divide the rest of the time between maths and physics as per the convenience and caliber of the candidates.
- Candidates often jump on conclusions intuitively while solving the questions. If you find yourself doing this mistake then try to write the information given in the question separately to make sure that you rely on facts while problem solving.

- Candidates who are appearing for JEE Main Paper 2 will have to bring their own geometry box set, pencils, erasers, color pencils or crayons.
- Candidates will be instructed to open the seal of the Test Booklet 5 minutes before the test commences. They must confirm that the Test Booklet Code printed on Side-2 of the Answer Sheet is similar to the one printed on the Test Booklet. If there is a mismatch, it must be reported to the invigilator and get it replaced.
- Candidates will be allowed to carry a cardboard or a clip board with nothing written on it to the exam hall as a pad to keep the exam paper on it to write smoothly.
- Candidates should not carry any ball pens to the exam hall. It will be provided at the exam hall.
- Candidates will be provided with rough sheets to work out the calculations or any other rough work. These sheets have to be returned to the invigilator before leaving the exam hall.
