About Institute of Home Economics

Institute of Home Economics (IHE) is a public and constituent college for girls only affiliated with the University of Delhi. The building is spread in the area of 3.5 acres which consists of manicured lawns, spacious lecture theatres and laboratories. The institute offers various UG, PG, PhD and diploma courses to the 1,000 native and foreign students of Asia and Africa.

The Institute of Home Economics has been accredited with Grade ‘A’ by the NAAC and has been conferred with the title of “Star College Scheme” by DBT. The college has a well-developed and experienced faculty that is working actively in the research field and has been recognized worldwide because of publications in the respective field. The college has not only established itself as an academic excellence institution but also is actively involved in co-curricular activities for the all-around inclusive development of students.

The institute offers short term programs in the fields of Nutrition for Health Sports and Fitness, Early Childhood Care and Education, Management of Individual and Emotional Well Being, Radio Jockeying etc. The college also offers courses in 10 departments such as the three-year Department of Biotechnology, Elementary education, Fabric and Apparel Science etc.

Institute of Home Economics Courses and Fees

Institute of Home Economics offers multiple courses at the undergraduate, postgraduate, PG Diploma as well as doctoral levels. The duration of the UG courses is 3 years, 2 years for PG courses and 1 year for PG Diploma course.

Institute of Home Economics (IHE) Admission

Institute of Home Economics admission to all courses (except PG Diploma) is based on scores obtained in the CUET examination. Students who want to take admission to the PG Diploma program must have a graduate degree in relevant stream with at least 55-60% marks. The IHE admission process includes appearing for the CUET examination and then appearing in the CSAS seat allotment. Registrations for admission at Institute of Home Economics start after CUET result declarations. Candidates must select Delhi University while filling out the CUET application can register themselves on the DU CSAS portal and choose the college and course preferences. The entire selection process is done via the DU CSAS portal for both UG and PG courses in multiple rounds. The admission process is as follows:

Step 1: Appear for the Entrance Examination

IHE admissions for all courses at affiliated colleges, faculties, and departments are based on scores obtained in the entrance examination. The table below lists the entrance exam accepted for various courses at Delhi University:

Step 2: Registration on DU CSAS Portal and Filling of Courses and College Preferences

Candidates who qualify for the entrance examination must register on the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) Portal of Delhi University for the seat allotment. Once the registration is done, candidates will be asked to fill in their college and course preferences.

Step 3: Seat Allocation

The seat allocation will be done in multiple rounds for all programs. Seats are allocated based on scores obtained in the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) or other national-level tests, combination of college and program chosen, category (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/UR) of the candidate, and availability of seats.

Step 4: Blocking of Seats and Final Admission

Candidates can check their seat allotment results by logging into Delhi University’s Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) dashboard. Upon acceptance of seat, the college will check eligibility, verify documents, and confirm admission after receiving the admission fees.

Library: Presently the library has a collection of 22,500 resource materials which includes textbooks, reference books, and thesis and back volumes of journals in the field of Home Science. The Library subscribes to 40 National and International Journals. The Library also has a Book Bank with 615 volumes.
Computer Lab: The Institute has three computer labs equipped with 120 computers loaded with the latest software and internet connectivity for use by students, research scholars, and faculty. Many classes of under-graduates and postgraduate students that require the use of computers are held in the computer lab.
Gymnasium: The college has an Air Conditioned Gymnasium, well equipped with the latest equipment to cater to the needs of students interested in fitness workouts. A Four Station Gym, Cross Trainer, Sports Treadmills, Steppers, Rowing Machine, Leg exerciser, Horse, Height & Weight Scale, Gym Balls, and Weight Section are available in the Gym.
Canteen: A favorite hangout of the students during college hours is the college canteen where a wide variety of snacks and beverages are available at affordable prices. The canteen has been renovated this summer with an increased seating capacity for students to sit and eat or chat with their friends.
